Te Matauru Primary School Student Discovers Copper Butterfly Larva

Sienna Harris is 12 years old and in Year 8 at Te Matauru Primary School in Rangiora. Sienna and other Year 8’s are participating in the William Pike Challenge see https://williampikechallenge.co.nz/.
To complete the Challenge they have to do community service, outdoor activities and passion projects. The Volunteer work at Silverstream Reserve counts toward her Community Service.
Last weekend while working in the dryland area, under the tutelage of Geoff Henderson, Sienna caused a lot of excitement by finding a Canterbury Plains Boulder Copper Butterfly larva in the area of the Reserve dedicated to preserving their habitat.

Sienna and her mother Wendy have also been helping to plant and mulch with the other Volunteers on a Sunday morning.
